2004 Art Festival - visual artist

 

The Platte County Arts at Zona Rosa arts festival is an annual cooperative effort between the Platte County Arts Council and Zona Rosa Shopping Center. 

 

2008's festival is scheduled for Friday, September 12, to Sunday, September 14. Jury applications for visual artists are now available! Click HERE for a PDF version, or contact us to get one mailed to you. Applications are also being accepted on line at www.zapplication.org

 

If interested in submitting your work (or performing), please let us know a current mailing address and we will make sure you are on our mailing list.

 

If you are a member of the Platte County Arts Council, and are interested in serving on the Arts Festival Planning Committee, our next meeting is June 19, 2008 at 5:30 PM in the Zona Rosa community room.

History of the Festival (most recent year first)

 

2006:

The third year doubled our size and added food tents. We had 73 visual artists, and 14 performances, including Angela Hagenbach Friday night and the Elders on Sunday afternoon. The Platte City Friends of the Arts continued hosting a children's art area, and this was the first year food tents were available, with 10 tents from Zona Rosa restaurants along the streets.

The visual side awards were:

  • Judge: Nano Nore, Professor of Art at William Jewell

  • Grand Prize: Steve Lohr (photography)

  • 3 Honorable Mentions:

    • Lynette Hayes (pastel, oil, acrylics, mixed media)

    • Keith & Wanda Davenport (photography - nature/wildlife)

    • Dana Ballentine (photography - photo transfer process)

  • The People's Choice Award went to Steve Giangreco (photography)

 

2005:

The second year expanded to include Friday from 5 to 10 p.m., and was held on September 16 - 18, 2005. The visual artists also expanded to 35 artists, and the 12 performances included Angela Hagenbach on Friday night. The Platte City Friends of the Arts hosted a children's art area free to children of all ages.

 

The visual side awards:

  • Judge: Jennie Frederick, Chair of the Dept. of Art at Maple Woods Community College

  • Grand Prize: Jean Hartley, fibers

  • 3 Honorable Mentions:

    • J.R. "Russ" Blaser, turned wood

    • Bill Alexander & Gayle Martin, pottery

    • Judith Keller, jewelry

  • The People's Choice Award went to Marie Kissinger, watercolors.

 

2004:

The first year of the festival (and of the Council, for that matter), it was held on Saturday, September 18, & Sunday, September 19, 2004. It hosted 28 visual artists who lived or showed in the Platte County area, and presented 12 performance-based groups (including the Kaw River Band on Saturday evening) throughout the two days. 

 

The visual side awards:

  • judge: Donna Bachmann, Chair of Dept. of Art at Park University

  • Grand Prize: Bess Dustin, watercolor & screen painting

  • 3 Honorable Mentions:

    • Joe Hendrix, photography

    • Mr. Robin Richerson, bronze sculpture

    • Cheri Alfrey, watercolor & mixed media

  • The People's Choice Award went to Mr. Robin Richerson, bronze sculpture.
