History of the "Theatre for Kids, By Kids" program

In December of 2005, the Platte County Arts Council held a meeting to gauge the interest in helping organize a children's theatre concept. The idea would be to discuss what exactly was wanted by children's theatre (theatre for children or by children or both), what was already out there, and ways to fund the program. The goal is to be a partnership with all the various theatres in the Platte County area so the work was divided.

In January 2006, the Council developed a partnership with the City of Riverside's Parks and Recreation Department, using Riverside's Community Center for rehearsals and E. H. Young Park for the performances (with the Community Center as a bad-weather backup).

In 2007, The Platte County Arts Council continued the "Theatre for Kids, by Kids" program, but changed the name to "Children's Theatre: By Kids, For Kids". In partnership with the City of Riverside, Riverside Parks and Recreation, Fair Based Productions and Park University, children's theatre continues to be a free opportunity for the children of Platte County to be on stage and learn a little along the way. With 32 children participating, Children's Theatre continues to grow.
